Renaissance was a publicly traded SPAC (special purpose acquisition corporation) taken public in an IPO in early 2007 which raised $110 million. Its purpose was to merge with a private company that would benefit from being public and could make use of the $110 million cash held in trust. The operations required building a broad deal sourcing network and reviewing hundreds of acquisition and merger opportunities. Mountain City Casino was, at the time, the largest casino hotel project in Colorado. The project was ultimately managed and then purchased by Harvey’s Casino Resorts and opened for business in 1994 (Harvey’s was subsequently purchased by Harrah’s and then Caesars Entertainment purchased Harrah’s).
