Stepped in as CEO to implement a transition of the business to a SaaS-based model from a full service staffing model. Led a divestiture of our core operational business to two staffing companies, and relaunched a SaaS offering called Deploy. Built several dozen customers across healthcare, light industrial, and hospitality verticals leading to an offer to sell the technology to a large enterprise leveraging the solution under private label. Shiftgig's software platform was acquired in the Spring of 2021 by a large enterprise for integration into their overall experience.

Funded with nearly $70m in capital, lead technology for a 50-person engineering group to service thousands of active shifts across the country every day for tens of thousands of workers. Moved our technology platform to AWS from co-located servers, implemented a stronger pod-structure for our team, led our transformation to a scalable reactive architecture using cloud-native services as well as driving a replatforming of our data and ML platforms. Led our product discovery efforts for a pivot to SaaS-based platform.

Key leadership role driving the redevelopment of our engineering, product, and design hiring from a decentralized model to a centralized model focused on consistency and a high bar. A founding member of our AWS cloud migration team, leading practices and approach for our transition to AWS patterns, and developing working models and architectural standards for our 1,200-person global software development organization. Championed an agile technology leadership approach, developed internal technology forums for cross-team interaction, led software architects to expose implementation patterns across our software product portfolio, and built an InnerSource working model for shared capabilities and frameworks.

Lead 110-person engineering and QA team responsible for delivering Morningstar's consumer products including Morningstar.com, as well as products delivered through employers like HelloWallet and Morningstar Retirement Manager. Successfully launched a complete replatforming of Retirement Manager and moved our Morningstar.com content platform to become the first production experience on AWS for the company.

Drove product decisions and engineering of our behaviorially-focused personal financial management platform aggregating millions of transactions every day for hundreds of thousands of active members. Led key initiatives like our rollout to Google, our partnership with Vanguard, and during our sale to Morningstar, helped educate and explain the benefits of our agile development process to Morningstar CEO that acted as a key component of a dramatic restructuring of product and engineering across the company.

Lead the efforts of the engineering team by working with the product team to refine UX decisions, our research team to design and deliver success metrics, manage scope and resources for our engineers, and guide the Agile processes of our company. Was responsible for building a number of components in the HelloWallet application. Made first major contribution by developing our Trends page which I prototyped and delivered using a thin client charting solution based on SVG & VML. Has subsequently lead to the complete removal of Flash from the system. Also built eligibility logic and email statistics data extracts for customers by introducing Spring Batch.

- Lead development of Senate financial management modernization task order of our client’s primary custom J/EE Web-based financial management system. Negotiate with the client business owner to discuss project scope and detail task order features representing a value of $9m over the past three years. Lead technical approach and release management for 12 to 14 member team.- Architect and manage implementation of Procurement, A/P and Finance system modernization using Google Web Toolkit (GWT) and EXT for GWT (GXT), moving over 100 Senate staff out of the underlying mainframe terminal application. Led integration of JBPM Workflow and JBoss Drools to replace legacy workflow processes and custom rules evaluation processes for vendor expense threshold detection and travel itinerary generation, and replacement of legacy Crystal Reports with Jasper Reports Java reporting engine that provides tighter integration to the core financial application, enhanced performance, and system consolidation.- Implementing Scrum-based software delivery using two-week rapid iterative cycles (sprints) of development and client acceptance. I have driven the transformation over the course of the last 18 months that continues to increase software quality each release. Led CMMI Level 3 compliance effort working with SMEs and developed project and tailoring documentation.- Developed the task order of a multi-phased implementation meeting the final goal in the Senate’s vision of a paperless financial environment. Created the overall program and project schedules, developed a staffing plan, and pricing for the $2.7m effort.- Developed the concept of operation and overall SOA application integration architecture between the core financial system, a SharePoint-based image storage repository, COTS Java-based Imaging Viewer technology, and smart-card PKI digital signature software development based on MS CryptoAPI and Java Cryptography Extensions (JCE).

- Manage a diverse set of project responsibilities: project initiation and release kickoff, source-code management practices, staff management and approach for the design, prototypes, development, testing (unit, functional, integration, and load/performance), production implementation, and ongoing maintenance and support of all Senate financial application modules. System supports all 6,000 Senate staff with approximately 1,800 active users and 10,000 user sessions a month.- Delivered SharePoint evaluation assistance needs analysis, development, and operational support tasks to five Senate offices. I provide technical expertise, status reporting and invoicing, domain expertise in Senate practices, and business development effort including creation of a sales demo for Senate-held expo booth, marketing materials, and oral sales support. Lead 1-2 staff members.- Architected and developed a complete custom MVC J/EE framework to support the advanced user needs, and delivered a new audit review process using it. Senate funded the integration of all other separate financial applications into the primary J/EE application based on my architecture’s successes in manageability and usability.

- Involved from inception to delivery of modules involving all major business process, including voucher submission, document auditing, budget management, dashboards, integrated reporting, document workflow, expense reimbursement, check printing, travel validation processes, and electronic invoicing with Bank of America and JPMC.- Re-built the staff travel system from a legacy Microsoft ASP 3.0 application to the ASP.NET Framework platform using a three-tier SOA architecture that supported nearly a thousand active users. Later, led the deprecation and integration of this module into the primary J/EE system.

- Developed core components of Aptify application suite, including the meeting management system, and coordinated the release of two versions of Aptify E-Business, a .NET web toolkit built on the company’s primary CRM system. Built the final setup tool and developed a Visual Studio .NET Add-In to manage the custom build process.- Developed the Aptify Major Version Upgrade Utility, which was capable of upgrading a client enterprise dataset through an automated difference detection process. Maintained client documentation, and was R&D point-of-contact for consulting and support departments. Took major client through a go-live transition of Aptify’s primary product, including performing the final SQL DTS data transformation.
