Following my retirement in June 2024 from 49 years legal practice in Adelaide as a Commercial and Property lawyer , I have been able to focus on my role as Chair of Adelaide Workers’ Homes ( AWH) -- a Trust established in 1898 by the terms of the will of Sir Thomas Elder the sole purpose of which is to provide working men and women who are in circumstances of financial need with adequate homes in which to live at an affordable rent – generally at about 25 % less than market rent . AWH owns and manages over 300 properties in metropolitan Adelaide , and , to assist overcoming the affordable housing crisis in both the metro and regional areas in South Australia , is committed to work with government , other Not For Profit organisations and property developers to increase that number to 600 within the next 5 years . During my legal career , I specialised in the areas of Property and Commercial law acting for a range of clients involved in business , property development and local government.
