In 1982 I started Viking Foods, a specialty food distribution company. When I sold the company in 2000 to Columbus Distributing Company, Viking distributed 3000 food and beverage products in northern and southern California, and had approximately 45 employees. Viking Foods helped launch many nationally known products and concepts into the marketplace, including Aidell's Sausage, Tazo Tea, the olive bar concept, and Spanish Serrano ham. In 1992, I purchased one of my supplies, Cafferata Pasta Company, a small San Francisco mom and pop shop that created beautiful pastas for local restaurants and hotels. I created a retail brand for Cafferata, achieving national distribution into Trader Joe's, Costco, Whole Foods and many other retailers. I sold that company in 2005. For 2 1/2 years I left the food industry. I created a team of highly skilled sales professionals for an innovative hearing aid company. My geographic area was the western half of the United States. My region exceeded the rest of the country so dramatically that I was asked to become the National Sales Manager and I managed a team of 25. The food industry called me back when several companies asked me to broker their products into Costco. So, in June 2007 I began brokering products into Costco and consulting to small food companies needing expertise in sales, marketing and product development. Products launched in Costco include Fage Yogurt, Macy's Cheese Sticks, Fra Mani Foods, Three Twins Ice Cream, Rubicon Bakery and many others. In most cases, I helped create the products for Costco with the owners. Specialties: sales, innovative marketing, packaging, distribution, networking.
