Greater Seattle Area - Remote

As Senior Technical Architect I am responsible for deep-diving into emerging and current AWS technologies, in order to assist our curriculum teams in developing and deploying well-scoped specialist training for our customers.I design custom software automation and full stack web applications for our hand on labs. I lead the development of real-world, scenario-based labs, which reinforce the learning objectives of our emerging specialty courses.I project manage software lifecycles, create and edit curriculum, and coach content creators and technical trainers.As the primary technical interface between Curriculum Development and the Product Service teams, I work in conjunction with Product Management, Curriculum Teams, and Instructional Designers to ensure the labs and curriculum are scoped correctly, current, in line with our corporate messaging, and are technically accurate.As well as working broadly across various teams as Architect, I deliver Amazon's high profile large-scale online events, such as AWSome day, for many thousands of our customers, and create and deliver technical content at Amazon's largest global conference (Re:Invent), and at our many technical summits.

Being one of the Senior Trainers at AWS, I get to run some of our higher visibility training campaigns, such as the bootcamps at our national summits and Re:Invent, and regularly deliver our company's AWSome day online to many thousands of people.I am also one of lead instructors for the Developing on AWS course in the USA, and now as one of the Senior members of the training team, I get the opportunity to coach and on-board some of our new (amazing) trainers.I hold all the AWS associate and professional certifications, along with the specialist big data cert, and when I am not teaching I can probably be found developing interesting software applications for fun, playing Magic the gathering, practicing Taekwondo, playing on my Oculus Rift, or pushing my cat off my keyboard.

Working freelance as a software consultant/trainer for over 6 years, I was responsible for training technical staff at a range of companies both big and small, on various subjects such as Node.js, Python, Advanced JavaScript, Git, MongoDB, Redis, Docker, HTML5, CSS (Material Design UI/UX).I created my own full curriculum and delivery lifecycle for companies such as Intel, Cisco, and Verizon, which was used by other technical trainers in the team. I was responsible for keeping them current and relevant to counter the constant paradigm shifts in how we all approach software and dev ops.I spent many years specializing in virtual delivery. I was one of the very few that was pioneering virtual delivery to blue chips at the time, and at least 20% of my time was mentoring and coaching other trainers to deliver content to these clients virtually.I delivered software training bootcamps and immersion days to the public on multiple occasions, either at a Microtek, or as bootcamps at software developer conference, creating all the content and demos.

[Closed - Acquired by Twiiter Inc]As a technical trainer I got to teach large corporations, small businesses and non-profits, about something I was really passionate about; JS and HTML5.I trained Blue Chips like Intel, Cisco, Comcast, Sybase and Motorola, and thrived on teaching bleeding edge best practices in software development to companies that were in a position to make a big difference.My training focus was centered on the HTML5 family (CSS, JS, Semantic Markup, and Device APIs) and front end development tools and techniques; such as responsive design, SVG, micro-data and mobile application development.Marakana provided a range of software courses and own TECH TV, before being bought by Twitter.

Responsible for all the UI/UX on their site, using best practices (Material design) I used CSS and HTML5 extensively. Working full time with professional JavaScript developers allowed me to hone my JS/Node skills to expert level. This role exposed my to working with others on large scale projects using various software, and systems, while helping the team manage deployments at scale (millions of users).

For almost a decade I worked with multiple software/platform technologies related to web development. Solving problems, building work arounds, I earned a well rounded developer skillset. I hand-coded e-commerce websites from the ground up, manage millions of minutes of streaming media, and manage dev ops and SEO for many small companies, all while managing scope and meeting business objectives for my clients. During this time I touched on pretty much all types of web technology, because I looked for the right tool for the job, and am not dogmatic about technology.
