During a leave of absence from the City of LA, I ran the highly successful Measure M campaign, achieving 71.15% of the vote. It raises $120 billion over 40 years so that LA Metro can build a complete transportation and transit system in the most populous county in the nation, the largest locally funded infrastructure project in modern US history. Raised over $10 million to run the campaign, also a record.

I created Accelerator for America out of whole cloth, first to highlight and replicate what mayors were doing to solve problems, at a time when the federal government was particularly dysfunctional. The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners were key initial funders along with Operating Engineers and LiUNA because Measure M (LA transit measure I ran in 2016) passed and provided jobs to thousands of their members. HNTB also became an early sponsor for the same reason.First meeting in South Bend, Indiana, hosted by then-Mayor Pete Buttigieg, with labor, business, city and NGO leaders on the one-year anniversary of the November 2016 election.Created Advisory Council of mayors, CEOs, organized labor, NGOs, partnering with the United States Conference of Mayors.Created investment prospectuses or thirty communities, including spurring two direct investments in Erie, PARaised more than $6mm, including a three-year, $3mm grant from Mastercard's Center for Inclusive Growth.Strategic advisor, passing transit ballot measures in Cincinnati and Austin ($7.1 billion 58%) at the peak of the pandemic. Waterloo, Iowa local issues presidential forum with US Conference of Mayors. Candidates interviewed by mayors. Created Angeleno Card in Los Angeles with Mastercard to distribute cash to those most in need at outset of pandemic, raising some $70mm into the LA Mayor's Fund.Replicated Angeleno card in ten (10) locations across the nation, each receiving a $50,000 implementation grant from us.Created a center of excellence on transit ballot measures.Hired and provided great jobs to eight people at organization.

I invented and founded the Mayor’s Fund together with the late Beatriz Solis. New to government and a new mayoral administration, I took best practices from around the country to create a nimble, entrepreneurial entity that would experiment, innovate and catalyze. Key accomplishments:Adopted by Mayor Karen Bass, proving the premise of the Fund beyond one mayor. Raised >$100 million, including $5 million to cover overhead for >5 years. This meant 100% of all donations went to programs. Created diverse board of directors consisting of key LA leaders. Created the Angeleno Card program with Mastercard to provide cash to those most in need during the early days of the pandemic. Through Accelerator for America, which I also founded, replicated in six other locations across the country. Funded and created the first-ever Chief Procurement Officer for the City of Los Angeles, designed to save hundreds of millions of dollars through smart acquisition. Landed and hosted first-ever US-China Climate Leaders Summit with VP Biden, achieving reduction in peak year carbon emissions from 2030 to 2020. Domestic Abuse Response Teams (DART) for all 21 police precincts. Hired administrators to operate the Fund.

Lead all external-facing aspects of Mayor Garcetti's office, including communications, international relations, strategic partnerships, scheduling, government relations, immigrant affairs, constituent affairs and field.

Founded in 2005 to capture the energy of the Dean Campaign here in California (which I chaired), Courage Campaign currently has over one million members. The Courage Campaign is an online organizing and communications network that empowers grassroots and netroots activists to build a progressive California and achieve full equality nationally.

Founded with late US Senator and White House Chief of Staff Howard H. Baker, Jr., we advised and invested in the former USSR. Clients included Lockheed (together with William Perry, we created and then managed a joint venture that allowed Lockheed to launch western satellites on Russian rockets), Marriott and Fairchild Aircraft. Invested in Russian bonds and companies. I and a partner still own and operate a warehouse and distribution business in Moscow Region.

Reported to Chairman and CEO Armand Hammer. As Vice President and Assistant to the Chairman, traveled to dozens of countries. Youngest Fortune 50 corporate officer at the time. Life-changing.Remained as consultant to the Chairman and CEO until 1993.

Reported to the CEO. First trips to China and the Philippines. Responsible for helping to get foreign governments to participate in Fair, including first-ever such participation by the PRC. Responsible for all relationships with the participating country representatives before, during and after the Fair (including close down). We had over 11 million visits during the six month operation from 1 May 1982 to 31 October 1982. The theme was energy at a time of very high oil prices and an economic malaise in the US.
