I am fortunate to say I have been retired since 2012. I thought about doing consulting work, but the retirement lifestyle convinced me otherwise. Having worked since I was 15, I thought it was time to relax. I worked my butt off running my own business for 20 years. Then was lucky to work for someone else for the next 17 years. I learned so much over the years. Sadly it was not learned from any school. Wish I could pass it on to the next generations especially since the school systems are so lacking. So many people give the impression they don't want to work hard or care about their work. Many can't even make a simple meal working in a restaurant. Young adults tell me about how much they were NOT taught in school. Personal health issues played a big part in my decision to retire. My health was pretty bad just before I retired. Two years after retiring I was treated for two types of cancer. Luckily they found it early and I am now a ten year survivor. I'm far from 100% but I am still here. At my age that is a big win. I enjoyed helping others at work, both customers and coworkers. I earned a master fireman's badge, having put out hundreds of "Work Fires" over the years. A great big thank you is my favorite statement. People who encounter difficult times learn a different perspective on life. For me it is being thankful and knowing the importance of having a good day. The world was in a pretty bad place back when I went to school. Sadly it has not gotten better 50+ years later. Maybe one day people will learn to get along with others, stop telling them what to do, get rid of the hatred, and realize most all good people have the same goals for this country and themselves. Please stop eating & drinking whatever is making so many people crazy & mean. Enjoy life while you still have one. Wisdom is often free and right in front of you.
