Fifteen years of leadership experience as director of the pediatric emergency department - a core institutional department. At this institution, the structure of the position has forced me to become facile in all aspects of management and leadership of an academic emergency department including: teaching, research, mentorship, quality improvement, operations, communications, leadership, cultural alignment, and strategic planning. Doesn't this follow the conceptual construct of emergency medicine - good at everything, expert in nothing? With time my interests have naturally expanded far beyond the department and into the administrative and leadership aspects of the children's hospital, the medical campus, and the organization as a whole. Leadership positions have included Chair of the Pediatric Leadership Committee (hospital), member of the Campus Medical Executive Committee (campus), Chair of the PPE task force (organizational).
