A professor of political science, and current Dean of the College of Community Studies and Public Affairs at Metropolitan State University, Rick S Kurtz has served in academic roles as the Master of Public Administration Program Director, Political Science Department Chair, University CEO, Dean College of Arts and Sciences, and Associate Dean College of Humanities Social & Behavioral Sciences. Kurtz teaches courses on public administration, organizational management, state and local government and environmental politics and policy. His current research focuses on community and economic development, marine pollution, and oil and gas transportation systems safety. Among his many publications are peer reviewed journal articles, book length manuscripts, and chapter contributions. He has presented and served as a section organizer at national and international conferences. Kurtz served in the military with the U.S. Navy-Navy Reserve. He holds a PhD from Colorado State University, a Master degree from the University of Virginia, and Bachelor degree from the University of Alaska, Anchorage.
