I began my career in Navy Nuclear Propulsion with one tour on a submarine; my second in radiological controls at Pearl Harbor. I completed my active duty there but remained in the Navy Reserve working in expeditionary communications, retiring after 24 years. As I left the Navy, I had a strong desire to work in a field where I could directly help people. This led me to Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) in Health Physics, and later into IT support. My duties at Tripler allowed me to enjoy the highly technical aspects of Health Physics & IT, while supporting patient care efforts. After 13 years at TAMC, I moved to a position as the IT Manager for the Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA)/Chemical Biological Radiological & Nuclear (CBRN) Directorate. As a qualified Contracting Officer’s Technical Representative (COTR), I managed all sensor networks/servers that were the first line of defense for detecting a possible CBRN event at the Pentagon facilities. I was asked to switch roles to manage the budget and contracts for the entire CBRN Directorate and Pentagon Shield, a state-of-art smart building protection system for CBRN threats that could ultimately save lives. I thoroughly enjoyed the “unpaved road” of building new capabilities to keep people safe. After 4 years with CBRN, I moved to US Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), where I served as a Procurement Team Supervisor & Budget Chief for Office of International Affairs and later at the Office of Intelligence. As ICE was a very new organization, this was again an unpaved road for me. Our teams were able to solve complex problems through strong teamwork, setting processes in place for those to come behind us. In 13 years and various roles at ICE, I learned from my teams and leadership every day, sought to help where I could - always looking for the valuable solution that met the needs of the leaders, program/project managers we served. I retired from federal service to start a small business, Unseen Aerial Views, using drones to support the local agricultural industry. As the COVID pandemic changed the economy for farmers and the industries that support them, we were unable to continue the business efforts in that industry. We currently offer aerial photography and video supporting local governments, communities, and real estate. Additionally, I have over 25 years of volunteer service supporting youth ministries in various roles and have traveled to Russia & Guatemala on mission service trips.
