About Rick Clancy, Apr

Recently returned to serve on the Board of Trustees of my alma mater Bethany College, a vibrant liberal arts college located in Bethany, West Virginia. I previously was a Visiting Professor for two years (2019-21) in the Communications and Media Arts Department at Bethany where I taught Integrated Marketing Communications, Entrepreneurial Media, Globalization and International Communication, Social Media & Digital Marketing, and Public Speaking classes, in addition to a first-year seminar entitled "Shark Tank, Scandal and Mad Men...Oh My!" This followed three-and-a-half years (2015-18) at the University of North Carolina's Media and Journalism School as its first Edgar Thomas Cato Distinguished Professor, teaching advertising and public relations classes. Before that I headed public relations and social media marketing for Covario, a San Diego-based search engine marketing and social media firm, which was acquired by Dentsu Aegis and integrated into iProspect in 2014. The leadership role at Covario encompassed media and analyst relations, social media initiatives, executive communications, IMC, and customer loyalty (as the Net Promoter champion). At Covario I also contributed to employee engagement and CSR initiatives. Before joining Covario, I served as the U.S. face of Sony Electronics and as its corporate blogger while heading corporate communications. Served on the management committee and as the executive champion for company-wide social media initiatives. While at Sony, my name was the first word in "Groundswell," a best-selling book by former Forrester Research analysts focusing on the impact viral conversations and social media networks were having on leading brands and global enterprises.Previously I held communications posts at Wall Street investment firms, including Drexel Burnham Lambert and E.F. Hutton, in addition to the ad/PR agencies of J. Walter Thompson and Creamer Dickson Basford representing B2C, B2B, financial and technology clients.I've also consulted with marketing, technology and e-commerce innovators. I've advised nonprofits that helped bring entrepreneurs together with business partners and investors. And I've spoken before professional groups about social media, media relations, corporate reputation, customer loyalty and crisis communications.

Listed skills include Media Relations, Corporate Communications, Integrated Marketing, Strategic Communications, and 46 others.
