Rick Clark was a 44-year-old high school dropout living in poverty when he decided to take a chance on himself and pursue enrollment at Spokane Community College. On his way to SCC, he met a homeless man, an encounter that motivated him to set aside his own struggles and focus on helping someone else. That day, Giving Back Packs, Rick’s homeless outreach program, was born, and Rick transformed a life of difficulties into a passion for service. Giving Back Packs became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2018 with Rick serving as its Executive Director, and he has also established two other community outreach organizations. Rick's inspiring leadership and ability to connect with people has earned him recognition as one of Spokane’s local heroes. He is a highly sought-after speaker who encourages others to leave their comfort zones and engage with marginalized communities.
