About Rick Erbach

Hi, Rick Erbach here… I’m the News Director and a UAS pilot at WGNO News and News with a Twist. So what do I do? Simply, I get to work with incredibly talented people in front of the camera and behind the scenes on a daily basis.Every day is different. We get to experiment with creative ideas and jump into stories other stations won’t cover. News with a Twist is a groundbreaking local news program. You won’t find it anywhere else. We’re showing people it’s ok to be different in the way news is presented on a daily basis. My news career has taken me around the world covering small town America, wars and conflicts, Presidential elections, Papal visits, and hometown politics. I’ve witnessed Super Bowls, Final 4’s, World Series and the Masters Golf tournament. I’ve been in floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, blizzards, droughts and heat waves…But I’ve never been anywhere like New Orleans. The vibe here is unbelievable—fantastic food and drink, great culture, music, and art—and the people are the nicest I have ever met in all of my travels. When I have plenty of family and friends come visit, we usually head down to the French Quarter for live music and dinner at Coops Place or Red Fish Grill. Coops is great for a beer and friend chicken. If you go to Red Fish Grill, ask for Ike. He’s the best waiter in the French Quarter! If you’ve read this far and are looking to doing something for your community, consider donating blood to your local Blood Center. I like to give back to the community by donating blood at The Blood Center in Metairie. If you’re healthy, it’s simple and fast plus you can save someone’s life. We’re always looking for good story ideas to showcase on WGNO News or News with a Twist. If you have an idea or just want to share your opinion on something you watched, drop me a line at rerbach@wgno.com.

The opportunity to work at the legendary WHO-TV was fantastic. During my brief stint here, I had the opportunity to cover a 100 year flood, tornado, and an ice storm. The station was connected to WHO radio. The radio home of Ronald "Dutch" Reagan. We had a steady stream of Presidential wannabes from VP Dan Quayle to a host of other contenders. It was.

Mar 1990 - Aug 1990

10Pm News Producer

Ksdk-Tv

St. Louis, MO

Producing at KSDK was a wonderful experience. During my producing stint, KSDK was the highest rated NBC affiliate in the country at 10p. I had the opportunity to work side by side with some of the legends of St. Louis--Dick Ford, Karen Foss, Mike Bush, Mike Owens, Deanne Lane, Huel Perkins, and Tom O'Neal. Behind the scenes, we had the best producers.

Jul 1988 - Feb 1990

10Pm News Producer

St. Louis, MO

I joined the station when it was in its final days of being the "smallest" of the CBS O&O stations. The incredible staff included Julius Hunter, Betsey Bruce, Larry Connors, Mike Nelson, Dan Dierdorf, Robin Smith, Dan Gray, and Herb Humphries to name a few of the great St. Louis journalists. They all took this young producer under their wings and shared.

10Pm News Producer

Kthv

Little Rock, Arkansas

KTHV was situated between the Governor's mansion and the state capitol during the administration of Governor Bill Clinton. It was not unusual to see the Governor drop in on his way home to the mansion. He had charisma, an ability to teach young reporters and producers about state government, and a wonderful outgoing personality. It wasn't surprising to see.

Executive Producer 6 & 10Pm News

Kolr-Tv

Springfield, MO

KOLR-TV was the home of Bob Barker "Price is Right" and to John Ashcroft Governor, Congressman, and US Attorney. Both worked at the station early in their professional lives. This family owned station had a swimming pool for employees! My experience here included a shift of political power in 1984 as Republicans led by John Ashcroft swept all of the major.

Nov 1984 - May 1985

Producer, Reporter, Weekend Sports Anchor

Ksnf

Joplin, MO

I started as weekend sports anchor and three day a week general assignment reporter. I quickly learned I had a knack for investigative news and producing a 30 minute newscast. Although I loved sports, it was evident my sports anchoring wasn't that strong. Instead of dwelling on my weaknesses, I moved forward with my strengths in reporting and producing.
