He was instrumental in helping to bring awareness to the unique difficulties of talented children who become disillusioned with their current schooling. The school founded its principles on performance in all aspects of the curriculum. For example, drama, music, hiking, spelunking, rock climbing, field botany, etc. The theory of the school is that children learn their personal identity and self-esteem by self-expression in whatever field they study. Although Mr. Olsen left for other endeavors, the school maintained its focus to this day. The extension of Mr. Olsen's dream sent the children all over the world in their academic studies (Nepal, Thailand, as a few examples).
