Design And Communication Coordinator
My role at UPSU is a challenging role, assisting the Communications and Digital Manager. I am responsible for liaising with all other departments at UPSU to share their messages, through digital and physical platforms, to the student body, including the bar, gym, advice centre, student representation team, sports and societies teams, volunteering team, SU shop, student leadership team and a coffee shop, just to name a few.I work with multiple marketing specialisms and can adapt to other departments' needs depending on whether the campaign needs physical print, digital design, PR, comms, and social media. I work closely with scheduling tools like Hootsuite and I’m highly skilled in using design software such as the Adobe Creative Suite.I lead a team of 5 student content creators and designers to assist in creating visuals and content for our website and social media, as well as working closely with external print suppliers and digital contacts. My role is always nonstop, I manage a large workload myself and, especially over the past few years, I have had lots of experience with handling emergency communications, for example, covid closure messaging. My passion for design, photography and social media all come into play in this role and my attention to detail keeps my messages in check.
Group Marketing And Design Assistant
As Group Marketing and Design Assistant, I worked alongside the Group Marketing Manager to create collateral for all four hotels within our chain.Based at The Royal Seven Stars Hotel in Totnes, I would work closely with The Royal Castle Hotel in Dartmouth, The Luttrell Arms Hotel in Dunster and The Porlock Weir Hotel in Porlock. My main responsibility in this role was to design and create any marketing material the hotels need. This includes menus, posters, brochures, social media posts, newsletters, magazine and newspaper adverts alongside any other event or promotional material the hotels may require. While undertaking the above I encourage all the hotels to keep within our brand guidelines to provide consistency. My secondary role was running the social media effectively and efficiently for The Royal Seven Stars Hotel including Instagram and Facebook. This was my favourite part of the role as I use insights to see my progression which is very rewarding and allows me to monitor what works best for the business and compare figures with reaches.I also kept our website's 'What's on' pages up to date with correct information and imagery using WordPress. I use the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite to create these designs, mainly Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and Premiere Pro as well as occasionally using After Effects. I have 6 years of experience utilising these programs, therefore, have a strong understanding of the workings of them.Alongside this, I have a keen interest in photography, videography and animation, so I tried to utilise these passions within my role as often as I could by creating my own media to use in my designs.I worked well with the rest of the management team and when needed I was happy to work behind the bars and on the floor to cover staff. I also took calls and dealt with any customer enquiries about the hotel and provide connections between customers to the correct member of the team.
Creative Designer (Placement)
My time at Ribeye was priceless; I've truly learnt what is required to be a part of a small but effective team, using my ideas and skills in the most valuable way possible and how to work and communicate well between departments. My main duty was to create 3D render packs of our custom ribs, in the specification the customer has requested, using Keyshot7, and then share this with the sales team to help land the sale. On the side of this, I assisted the marketing team edit images and creating ads for magazines, our website and any visuals needed at the Southampton and Monaco boat shows, I also edited a few videos for our YouTube page and redesigned our entire range of owners manuals to create a manual that was on brand and effective for the new owner.
Bar Supervisor
Starting as a Barman at The Royal Seven Stars Hotel, I worked my way up to become a Bar Supervisor within 6 months because of my excellent work ethic and customer service skills. While working for The Stars I was placed on training courses such as; Welcome Host Gold, WSET Level 1 and workshops from Introtweet on how to effectively use social media to build the business' online footprint. I was trained in how to program the till systems, how to count tills and how to input figures onto our accounts system in the evenings. I also took responsibility for ordering stock, overseeing deliveries and general cellar management as part of my supervisor duties. I chose to temporarily leave The Royal Seven Stars to complete a placement at Ribeye Boats and I was assured I could return once my placement was over.
Residents Assistant
I lived with first year students in halls, I looked after them and helped them through their first year of independant university life.
