I made my childhood dream come true. I admired people on the radio who knew what was going on and told everyone. I wanted to join them and talk about the severe weather, big fires, and scandals. The dream started one night when I was four years old. I wished I was the guy on the radio because he didn't have to go to bed yet. I wondered what kind of car he drove, what his house looked like, and if his kids got to stay up for his show. A few other childhood dreams came and went. Ultimately, it was easier to get on the radio than go to the moon. For a sample of what I accomplished, won awards for, and might do for you, go to my portfolio:http://koshko.com/portfolio/Not getting to go to space didn't hurt my love for astronomy. I tell people what to look for in the sky in my SkyCaramba podcast. I use computer programming and graphics skills in designing maps and sky charts. And there are plenty of stories to tell about how things were discovered and what figures cultures around the world saw when they looked up at night.I speak Esperanto. Many people don't believe the language is real or they think no one actually speaks it. Jes, ĝi realas kaj estas Esperantistoj ĉirkaŭ la mondo. Yes, it's real and there are Esperanto speakers all around the world. I've talked to people from six continents in this neutral language with simple grammar and spelling. Want to learn? I'll help you get started.I volunteer at Dayton Bluffs Nature Preserve and Alternatives for the Older Adult. Back to the radio theme, I'm also a shortwave radio listener, a radio DX-er, and a ham radio operator. I give ham radio license exams and produced a newsletter for a ham radio club.Besides telling a community what it needed to know, I thoroughly enjoyed passing on the broadcasting craft to interns and new employees. One of my favorite moments happened after the Illinois News Broadcasters Association scholarship selection committee I was on chose winners. We all mingled with the students afterward and let them pick our brains for career advice. “Thank you, so much,” one of the winners said, shaking my hand and trying not to cry. I felt the seriousness of the life-changing decision when I participated in it earlier. Seeing, hearing, and feeling the gratitude really drove it home.My experiences in broadcasting, with Esperanto, in retail sales, and as a delivery driver introduced me to many people and taught me many things. Every day, I draw on that knowledge to put out the best product I can. Let's talk about me telling stories for you.rick.koshko@gmail.com
