Starting in 1999 we began the field work necessary for IBM to enter the database tools market towards the end of 2000. This included working with the Silicon Valley Lab to develop requirements for scores of products and enhancement requests for the few legacy tools that IBM had in inventory. Starting in Sept of 2000 I sold DB2 and IMS database tools to companies across the Americas and in only 6 months of entering the market the team had tripled IBM's market share.
