Mounted an eleventh hour primary challenge to a 25-year incumbent in order to raise awareness about proposed legislation including the Stop Online Piracy Act, which would have opened the door to internet censorship and had a chilling effect on the U.S. based cloud computing industry.Despite entering the race on the last day of filing, I received endorsements from Cafe Con Leche Republicans, Latinos Ready to Vote, Independent Conservative Voters of Texas, and Bob Price of Texas GOP Vote.Though the Austin American-Statesman ultimately endorsed the incumbent, I was the only candidate out of six challengers (two Republicans, two Libertarians, and two Democrats) to receive their praise:"Morgan struck us as a thoughtful, informed young man. He not only spoke eloquently and reasonably about technology issues, but also about immigration and education, among other topics ... if his political interests carry beyond this primary and needling Smith on SOPA, he just might be a future candidate to watch."Ultimately, received 5,866 votes as a first-time candidate on a shoestring budget despite being outspent by a combined 300:1 by two opponents with nationwide name ID. Played a role in a movement which led to the Republican Party of Texas adding a plank opposing internet censorship to their 2012 Platform.

Helped develop a new interactive portal using Zend Framework, ExtJS, and the SoftLayer API. Led the backend implementation of a new module which allowed customers to manage their Openstack cloud storage. Identified and helped fix a number of performance issues and frequently assisted with code releases.

My first three years at Heritage, I helped lead the architecture and development of a new object-oriented, PHP 5 framework, consolidating procedural code from ten sub-sites into a single, standardized codebase. During that time, I specialized in a number of different areas, from identifying and fixing critical security bugs to handling much of our SQL development to ultimately focusing on performance optimization. I also developed a number of products including an email templating system.My final year, I led the architecture of a new front-end codebase which led to a promotion to Sr. Front-End Developer. During this time, I replaced, standardized, and rewrote a significant amount of legacy JavaScript using jQuery and overhauled much of our CSS. I reduced our front-end page load times by over 50% by using data uri's and sprites, minifying code, and re-arranging scripts to avoid blocking, using lazy-loading where possible.In addition to my development responsibilities, I had the opportunity to lead the overhaul of a web registration process and worked directly with the E-Commerce department head to develop a new user flow which led to a 40% increase in new member registrations. Currently there are 750,000 registered users on the website.

Started web development in early 2002 with an internship as a PHP Developer at Electronic Clearing House, Inc., which has since been acquired by Intuit.
