Partner of Cherokee National Forest mission is to support the US Forest Service - Cherokee National Forest (CNF). CNF is a 640,000 acres of land in East TN covering the entire Eastern Border of TN except the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. Our National Forest differs for the national park in several ways. A couple most significant ways the public appreciates is you can: 1) Bring you dogs when you enjoy our public space and 2) Hunting is allowed.The new administration in Washington is making changes in the way our public lands are managed. Please keep an eye on these changes to ensure the changes are for the public good.

My role with the United Way primarily revolves around creating relationships in an effort to gain a deep understanding of community needs, establish partnerships with other non-profits, and define common goals to effectively focus resources and talent toward making a difference. Although I have been successful in managing operations, teams, and budgets to reduce costs while increasing productivity, my true passion is in determining areas of need, building teams, and collaborating with community leaders and volunteers to create and implement actionable programs with measurable results. By focusing on outcomes, my team and I have produced several key programs that have positively impacted thousands of individuals and we have used these successes to fuel donor involvement and substantially grow our giving. I am particularly proud of the work we did with “Project Life Saver”, which is a relatively new program we rolled out in collaboration with local law enforcement. Through this program, we leverage advanced technology to locate lost senior citizens suffering from dementia, Alzheimer’s, and other disabling psychological problems. This has not only saved lives, but also allowed more seniors to age in place while delivering peace of mind to family members. These types of programs along with the numerous other programs/initiatives I have been involved with throughout my 10+ years with the United Way, have given me a unique perspective on how combining a passion for change and executive-level management skills can produce outstanding results.

As Executive Director of the Anderson County health Council, I was responsible for a staff of 12 and a total revenue of ~$600,000. Additionally, I provided clinical supervision for all five program directors under our umbrella.In 2001, I accepted on the behalf of our team, the Tennessee Rural Health Award "Innovative Prevention Award" for our work in Anderson County in developing, funding, implementing and sustaining the Quality Childcare Initiative. In 2002, I was awarded a $500,000 three year grant from the American Legacy Society (ALS) to address tobacco control in a tobacco growing region and was the first grant recipient to address the ALS Board of Directors on our results. When I left in 2005, we had a $900,000 budget and 18 staff members.

In this role, my focus was on analyzing data from underserved communities and developing goal-oriented programs to address a myriad of community issues. Serving a rural five county region, I helped institute community health interventions from low intensity health fairs to high technological improvements for rural ambulances that dramatically increased the survival rates of distance heart attack suffers.I was an Advocacy Counsel member and was instrumental in building teams behind a tobacco control initiative designed to reduce teen smoking rates. By working with government leaders from multiple states and influential members of the community, I was able to present a solid case for enacting tobacco control legislature. I was a key member of the core group leading to the passage of Tennessee's freedom for indoor smoking act.

I was a leader in preventative health twenty years before it became vogue. Our unit worked to aid the morbidly obese to lose substantial weight and keep it of. For example, our team assisted one individual to drop from 700 pounds and stabilize at 400 lbs, thus significantly reducing the costs of his medical care for our health care system. I focused on medically supervised weight management and on smoking secession. From 1994 - 2000, I was the American Lung Associations Train the Trainer for Freedom from Smoking for all of Tennessee. Additionally, I was lead on developing, implementing and managing Methodist Medical Center's first corporate wellness program.

I was an Addictions Therapist in the Army and public sector and I worked closely with patients who suffered from alcoholism, PTSD, family dysfunction and other related psychological issues. My focus was on creating positive, constructive environments to rebuild and produce progress toward happier, healthier lives, relying heavily on 12 step programs. Held the Army's Certification as an Alcohol and Drug Therapist during this time. I had specific training and skill in working with and supporting co-dependents in finding recovery. In the military and private sector, I was the primary therapist addressing co-dependency.
