Rick Nelson is the founder and owner of The Fulfillment Lab. He is responsible for the company vision, customer acquisition, research, development, and expansion. He has business planning experience as well as experience doing in-house logistics and fulfillment.Immediately prior to founding The Fulfillment Lab in 2012, Rick worked for four years as the COO for Almost Home After School Center. This start-up business was the brainchild of Rick and his wife Natalie, who saw a community need for better after school, child-sitting, and summer camp programs. Before starting Almost Home, Rick worked as a Sales and Operations Manager at Florida Central Binder, where he helped quadruple annual revenue and reduce inventory levels by 45% while maintaining same-day shipping. He also overhauled training, development, and payroll to maximize profitability. This unique history--experiencing the challenges of logistics and fulfillment followed by launching a business--helped shape the inception of The Fulfillment Lab. Rick's experiences and observations of the logistics and fulfillment industry highlighted the need for infrastructure with faster communication, better inventory management, and an accessible real-time dashboard. Naturally, he wanted to merge what he knew about fulfillment with the best capabilities of modern technology. After evaluating over a dozen systems used by various competitors, Rick realized that The Fulfillment Lab would need to create its own software and infrastructure, a customer-centric system flexible enough to be built around their clients—not the other way around.Rick credits the rapid expansion of The Fulfillment Lab to the establishment of a scalable, replicable model on the macro level and an unrelenting customer focus on the micro level. A trailblazer by nature, Rick is able to see the big picture and keep his focus on long-term goals without missing the details that make those plans happen.
