About Rick Plank
Rick Plank is the founder and CEO of eSwing Golf Technologies, based in Seattle, Washington. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy (Class of 1971) with a solid academic background in math, science and engineering and an impressive leadership record. A former Naval Aviator, he gained extensive theoretical and hands-on experience as a U.S. Navy helicopter pilot using underwater acoustics to locate and target enemy submarines. This knowledge was the genesis of his decision to use ultrasonic sensors in eSwing’s design to measure club path angle. He’s an attorney and an avid, single digit handicap golfer.

Ground School And Flight Instructor In Taiwan, RocLogistic Services International Aug 1981 - Jul 1982I worked one year for a U.S. Company, Logistic Services International, which was under contract to provide ground school and ASW flight training for a squadron of Taiwanese Navy Helicopter pilots. During this period, I conducted a thorough analysis of Taiwan's surrounding ocean waters using U.S. provided underwater maps and sonic conditions in the area to assess its ability to detect and defend the ROC from submarine attack by China. In the final month of my work in Taiwan, I was invited to present my findings to the U.S. equivalent of the Secretary of Defense in Taipei. I left LSI at the end of July, 1982 to start law school in Tacoma, WA.

Commissioned OfficerU.S. Navy Jul 1971 - Jul 1981Washington, Dc, UsFollowing graduation from USNA in early June, 1971, I served in Viet Nam aboard a U.S. Navy ship, USS Regulus (AF-57), for five months until detached to start Naval Flight Training in Pensacola, FL in Jan 1972.I received my Navy "Wings of Gold" as a Naval Aviator in spring 1975 and reported to a Helicopter Squadron, HC-3, in San Diego, CA , where i flew the CH-46 helicopter in Vertical Replenishment missions during 3 tours in the Western Pacific Ocean.In 1978, I left San Diego and reported to the U.S. Naval Academy where I was assigned for one year as Congressional Liaison Officer for the Dean of Admissions, Admiral McNitt, representing the Naval Academy in Congress. I coordinated nominations and appointments of new Midshipmen to USNA with U.S. Congressmen and Senators in Washington, D.C.. In summer, 1979 I was assigned as one of 36 Company Officers responsible for the academic progress, leadership development and military discipline of about 120 Midshipmen in the 14th Company.In 1980, I was detached from USNA with orders to report for aircraft transition training in Norfolk, VA where I learned to fly the SH-2 Seasprite conducting anti-submarine warfare (ASW) missions. Following this training, I received orders to report to HSL-36, an ASW squadron in Mayport, FL for duty. I was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander and assigned as Officer in Charge of a helicopter detachment aboard a first-of-Class U.S. Guided Missile Frigate, USS Oliver Hazard Perry (FFG-7). Our detachment had two ASW helicopters and a crew of 5 pilots and 10 enlisted crew members assigned to the ship. In 1981, I resigned my Commission to accept a job in civilian life as a Ground School and Flight Instructor for a squadron of Taiwanese helicopter pilots based in Kaoshuing, Taiwan.
