About Rick Robinette, Phd, Mph, Mba

Since 1986, I have acquired many diverse skills and ample experience related to sales, business management, communication, and adult education. During this time, my accomplishments include: owning and overseeing a proprietary school for adult learners; owning and maintaining a private health care practice; writing and publishing (through Pearson Education, Inc.) a book on pain management; co-producing an educational video on health care treatment protocols for a special population; writing promotional and informational online copy for various businesses, organizations, and clients; teaching adult learners through primary educational facilities (e.g., Parker University in Dallas, TX, and the Costa Rica School of Massage Therapy in Playa Samara, CR) and via the provision of continuing education training through many venues across the United States; instructing people to become competent adult educators and communicators.I have positively impacted a multitude of people and organizations over the past 30 years: thousands of hopeful students – both those seeking a new career in a health care field – as well veteran professionals in search of new insights, through my live and media-based instruction; scores of educators, based on my training of these individuals to become skilled and viable teachers themselves; countless clients dealing with pain, debility, or dysfunction, due to my direct therapeutic treatment; numerous commercial enterprises, as a result of my writing skills, promotional efforts, and marketing abilities. My experience with many different aspects of the marketplace is extensive, and my education spans the duration. The formal instruction I’ve obtained in business and communications is recent, and applicable for today’s needs. I possess the best of all worlds: deep tacit knowledge in business management and adult education, along with a strong – and current – academic foundation in corporate communications and organizational operations.

The subject is a non-invasive manual therapy approach to soft tissue pain management, and it has featured prominently throughout my adult learner teaching career. Whether in programs offered by the teaching institutions where I have taught (including 100-hour stand-alone courses), or the continuing education classes I have been presenting, the topic of trigger point therapy has always been a focus areas with my part-time instruction. The book has now also been published in Asia and Europe, with translations in both Korean and Italian.I was originally contacted by Mark Cohen – then the executive editor with Pearson – in early 2007, who inquired about my interest in writing a book on trigger point therapy. After discussion was completed and the commentaries by reviewers for the publisher were favorable, a contract for me to author the text was in place at the end of 2007.Over the course of the next five years, I embodied as much trigger point-related information as possible in the writing and production of this book. Four of those years were devoted to composing the manuscript, including all of my copy revisions, edits, and proofreading. The remaining year involved planning and execution of the associated graphic material: numerous photographs and illustrations (over 480 total). Thus, in my free time, I methodically and diligently accomplished the successful completion of this published textbook. Considerable amounts of time were involved with researching background material (both literary and graphic), planning for the photo shoots (which entailed six total days of shooting), and collating all the book components into a cohesive whole. The result is an organized, easy to read, and well-illustrated manual. Show less
