That seems like ages ago now. Back then, there were no smartphones, broadband internet was being rolled out across the United States and Gmail was in Beta. I started my career as an intern for a BAS controls contractor that was growing fast in New England because of their early adoption of Niagara, interoperability, and open communication protocols like LonWorks and BACnet. When I graduated college (down the street from the contractor’s corporate HQ), I was a proficient Tridium R2 programmer and on my path toward LonWorks Certification. Through Control Technologies (CTI), I left Vermont and moved to New York City to continue my career as a BAS programmer and my development as a young professional. I installed and integrated BAS systems throughout New York City, New Jersey, and Long Island. I then returned to Vermont and continued to push the boundaries of BAS systems for a few years more. I gained over 12 years of experience programming across a range of building types and control platforms. I was promoted from programmer to department manager and led a team of my peers. I then decided it was time for a change and left the BAS programming work. I thought I could make a bigger impact on carbon emissions and started tackling that goal as a Commissioning Engineer. I have experience in everything from designing control systems upgrades for building owners, retro-commissioning, drafting as-builts for HVAC and floor access control systems, new construction commissioning, performing design review services, and writing specs. I then returned to CTI after their acquisition by HTS . I focused on using my experiences to help CTI and HTS develop operational technologies and products that reduce energy consumption across the markets we serve in New England, and beyond. As of 2024, I joined the Albireo Energy team with the same goals and together we can achieve them across the nation. I've learned so much already and together we're going to cut carbon for our customers lowering their footprint and opex at the same time. There are always new approaches to take and new technologies to prove. Learning is the key to my success and is my most valuable skill.
