There’s are several reasons my career at Papa Johns, the fourth largest pizza chain in the US, took flight over 18 years, with ultimately 800 restaurants under my leadership. One of my strengths was the ability to leverage lucrative partnerships with professional sports teams with winning promotions that skyrocketed sales. For example, I engineered a campaign with the Texas Rangers offering pizza at a discount when the team scored seven or more runs in a game. In one instance alone the plan boosted sales $130k in a single day, and became the #1 promotion in the firm’s history. Another reason I succeeded was my hands-on relationships with area supervisors and franchisees, regularly visiting locations to ensure highest product quality, optimize customer satisfaction, incentivize staffs, and improve profitability.Perhaps my strongest trait is never giving up on people, making the effort to find out what motivates each individual and provide the opportunity and support they need to excel. Having that kind of patience benefits everyone. I’ve seen it change many lives. As a member of senior management phased out by a new Papa Johns investment group, I’ve made profitable use my elite business connections and people skills over the last four years brokering new business deals at Maverick Alliance Partners. Now I’m ready to take on a new leadership role in the Restaurant or Food & Beverage space, where I can contribute appreciably to a growing, quality organization from day one. Or, lend my highly transferrable skills and innovative promotional savvy to another related industry. If my background and experience aligns with a position you’re seeking to fill, I would welcome your contacting me at rdt3@sbcglobal.net to discuss. With energy and enthusiasm, I look forward to the challenges ahead!

Division Vice President - WestPapa Johns Jul 2016 - Apr 2020Atlanta, Georgia, UsRESPONSIBILITIES: Papa Johns is the fourth largest pizza restaurant chain in the US. Placed in charge of more than 800 franchise locations in the West region, leading a team of 10 Franchise Business Directors, I was responsible for overseeing all aspects of the business, from maintaining the quality of product and service, to building and motivating teams, to customer satisfaction and process improvements, to creative marketing initiatives that optimized sales and profits. I frequently visited individual stores for quality control and motivational purposes, but also conducted meetings with large franchisee owners of multiple restaurants to ensure they were making the most of their investment. RESULTS: During my tenure in this position, I increased the number of locations in our region from 789 to 812 in just three years; executed creative marketing campaigns with professional sports teams; implemented financial arrangements that improved profitability for franchisees; and responded quickly to the COVID pandemic by developing an effective strategy for contactless delivery. -
Divisional Vice President - SoutheastPapa Johns Jul 2013 - Jul 2016Atlanta, Georgia, UsRESPONSIBILITIES: Coming off a long string of operational and marketing successes managing Papa Johns corporate stores, I was promoted and given the opportunity to try out my winning methodologies on franchise-owned Papa Johns restaurants in the Southeastern United States. One of my strategies was to strike up sponsor relationships with the region’s pro sport teams, including the Miami Dolphins, Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta Braves. By reaching out to the passionate fan bases of these organizations with promotional campaigns, I could channel that loyalty to our pizza franchises as well.RESULTS: The strategy, along with other management policies I implemented, worked. Sales increased, brand recognition profited by its association with the pro teams, and the Southeast region became the #1 Papa Johns division in the country, with franchise restaurants actually surpassing the performance of corporate-run stores. As a result, I was promoted to Division Vice President of the larger West region. -
Operations Vice President, Domestic Corporate OperationsPapa Johns Nov 2010 - Jul 2013Atlanta, Georgia, UsRESPONSIBILITIES: Having succeeded in overseeing the corporate stores of the West region, I was put in charge of the domestic operations of all our company-owned locations. Among the many responsibilities such a role demanded were performing in-person branch audits with Retail Location Managers, inspecting the quality of the stores, welcoming new hires to the team, improving deficits within organizations, increasing employee retention, strengthening ROI, and maintaining the integrity of the brand. RESULTS: Consistently set sales records through strong managerial and motivational leadership, learning what each individual member of our team needed to be successful and providing the coaching and support to help them achieve it. Because my methods were so successful for the corporate stores under my command, I was promoted to Divisional Vice President of the Southeast region to apply the same strategies to our franchise-owned restaurants. -
Operations Vice President, WestPapa Johns Mar 2006 - Nov 2010Atlanta, Georgia, UsRESPONSIBILITIES: Promoted and entrusted with ever greater management responsibility, I assumed leadership of our 150 non-franchise corporate stores in Texas and New Mexico. My key task was to motivate and mentor all of those under me—Directors of Operations, Managers and Team Members—traveling extensively to make sure they understood and were taking full advantage of the sales opportunities and bonuses available to them. On the promotional side, I worked with notable sponsorship partners like Pepsi and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in creating high visibility TV commercials to spur sales and heighten brand awareness.RESULTS: All of the above efforts were remarkably successful, rocketing us from average weekly store sales of $11k to $23k, a more than 100% gain. My consistent positive performance resulted in my winning the company’s prestigious Operations VP Pinnacle Award three times. From there, I advanced to become Vice President, Domestic Corporate Operations. -
Senior Director Of OperationsPapa Johns Dec 2005 - Mar 2006Atlanta, Georgia, UsRESPONSIBILITIES: Having successfully increased sales in my previous position, I persuaded management to combine my seven stores with seven others, promote me to Senior Director of Operations and they’d only have to employ one person for the job they’d been paying for two. They liked the proposal, and I was confident I could take on the additional responsibilities and run with them. RESULTS: The move paid off. In addition to helping cut the company’s employment budget, I utilized my operations and marketing skills to quickly bring sales of the additional stores up to the level of the others I led, all exceeding the company average. My efforts were soon acknowledged and rewarded with a promotion to Operations Vice President – West. -
Director Of OperationsPapa Johns Nov 2001 - Dec 2005Atlanta, Georgia, UsRESPONSIBILITIES: In my first role at Papa Johns I was given the opportunity to oversee the operations of seven area stores that were underperforming in average weekly sales compared with other locations. This encompassed running every aspect of the business, including sales, budgeting, P&L, team leadership, staff development and training, inventory control, customer relations, food safety, and much more.RESULTS: In addition to improving each function performed at each restaurant location under my supervision, I launched creative marketing campaigns to boost brand awareness and offer special discounts to lure customers in. For example, I convinced a local dry cleaner to place a promotional door hanger on cleaned garments, in exchange for throwing a free pizza party for the cleaner’s employees. Weekly pizza sales soared from $11k to $16k a week, a gain of almost 50%. As a result I was promoted to Senior Director of Operations.
