Since 2015 I have been the Vice President of Finance and Administration with Western Resource Advocates, an organization fighting climate change and its impacts to sustain the environment, economy, and people of the West. WRA respects the different needs of diverse people and partner with them to develop a shared vision for progress — one that advances communities while protecting biodiversity.Beginning with my activist work in college pushing for my schoolʼs divestment from the apartheidregime of South Africa to my current role with Western Resource Advocates, I have a long history of working in the public interest. After spending the year after college as a political organizer, I was promoted to be the Administrative Director for Florida PIRG. I’ve spent the years since then as a Director of Finance and Administration, or its equivalent, in organizations with budgets ranging from $500K to $12 million (current). In those positions I’ve handled human resources, coordinated internship programs, dealt with office and building management, created and tracked budgets, produced and analyzed financial statements, managed annual audits and 990 preparation, processed payroll, and handled accounts payable and receivable. I’ve managed CPAs, IT staff, administrative assistants, office managers, production coordinators, hiring managers, and database/ArcGIS staff. While my career primarily been in administration and finance, I have been fortunate to have had a number of other diverse experiences. I've organized public hearings and citizen turn-out to stop offshore drilling off the Florida coast; organized and participated in dozens of lobby days; worked with the media; designed newsletters and websites; and compiled and edited Congressional voting scorecards. (In the 90s I also co-founded an LGBT newspaper in and acted as its volunteer editor-in-chief - at the time it was the largest LGBT newspaper in Florida.)All my experiences have prepared me to handle any job successfully, whether in administration and finance, human resources, advocacy, media and communications, policy, or operations. While you will not see an MBA or CPA on my resume, I have built my financial, administrative, and operations skills through real world experience.
Listed skills include Nonprofits, Grassroots Organizing, Volunteer Management, Policy, and 34 others.
