As a senior software engineer I helped architect, plan and deliver new features for the Hireology platform. I also mentored junior developers to assist in their learning and growth as software developers. The resident apprenticeship program at 8th Light is an intense and educational experience that focuses on learning the fundamentals of good OOP design (via SOLID principles) and strongly emphasizes disciplined TDD. My apprenticeship included building projects using Ruby, Javascript, HTML / CSS, Rails, Java, JRuby, Limelight, Clojure, Scheme, Riak, Postgresql, and MySQL. I was also exposed to Erlang, Haskell, MongoDB, Hyperion and best practices in web design. I studied OO design patterns such as the Abstract Factory pattern, the Observer pattern, the Command pattern, the Singleton pattern, the Null Object pattern, and the Visitor and Acyclic Visitor patterns. Beyond that I also learned about effective communication, estimating projects and how to effectively pair program with others.

Created custom web applications ranging from small, short-term projects to large-scale management applications.

Helped maintain the Boxcar API, added new features to the Boxcar application and also worked with the Sparrow Team in France to help facilitate push notification for the iPhone Sparrow email client.

Started as an intern responsible for creating monthly reports measuring the performance of a product. Then switched roles and learned the ropes of web application development using PHP and MVC principles in order to create customer-facing products and internal tools.
