Projectbureau REScoop Limburg offers hands-on support to local energy cooperations from the province Limburg in developing (large-scale) renewable energy projects. The project office is part of REScoop Limburg, which is the alliance of independent renewable energy cooperations from Limburg. Currently, approximately 20 energy cooperations are involved (and increasing). Projectbureau REScoop Limburg consists of a management team and a team of project managers: all are experienced and highly-motivated professionals who already own a vast experience in the cooperative world of renewable energy. The project office largely invests in new project managers, due to the increasing demand. In order to expand the team of project managers, the Projectbureau has, with support from the Province of Limburg, developed an education traject to educate people to specialists of our way of development. In this way, the project managers help the energy cooperations with initiating, realising and operate cooperative renewable energy projects. On one hand, these are projects for generating renewable energy (e.g. solar energy and wind energy), but on the other hand sustainable heating and energy reduction have our specific attention.

The SEAC (Solar Energy Application Centre) is an independent research organization (founded in 2012) on the initiative of ECN, TNO and Holland Solar. The scope of SEAC is the field of solar energy systems and applications, which includes photovoltaic systems and solar thermal applications.The technical expertise of the SEAC is strongly focused on three key R&D areas: benchmarking, field testing and techno-financial modeling of solar energy systems and applications. The SEAC covers these and other topics through strategic collaboration agreements with other R&D institutes, such as Eindhoven University of Technology.My role in this organization was operating in a graduation project. This graduation focused on the PAS project, which investigates the possibilities for applying PV panels on seals for landfills. In fact, several hundreds of unused landfill sites are present in the Netherlands, which are considered to be 'lost area'. In order to prevent contamination of the ground, the landfills need to be covered with a seal, which has a limited lifetime and requires investment. The idea is to apply solar PV cells in or on top of the seal so that the electricity generated may open up the opportunity to earn back the costs of the sealing. A new application of such technology has large potential, due to the broad variety of other applications and the large amount of space available. Therefore, conducting research in a subject like this does not only contribute to science but is also socially very relevant: a new way of energy supply - nationwide.My graduation project focused on the projects' financial part: constructing a financial model and thereby a business case. This brings complexity, due to different stakeholders that are involved, each with their own interests and goals, while requiring unification and optimization in one model. Moreover, the generated electricity can serve multiple purposes, feed-in the grid, storage, meaning different financial consequences.

The master's program Sustainable Energy Technology (Eindhoven University of Technology) is a two year education, studying - in a multi-discplinary way - an extensive amount of principles relevant in sustainable energy technology. Having finished this study, change processes in the energy market can be anticipated, such as increasing use of renewable energy sources (e.g., solar energy, biomass, wind energy, etc.).
