As an Operations Agent, my main duty is to "clear" flights at ANC. This means preparingpaperwork such as General Declarations and Permits to Proceed, as well as using specializedcomputer programs. I then take the paperwork to US Customs to clear, and place the clearedpaperwork on the aircraft. It is fairly simple work, but requires a great attention to detail as awrong date, flight, or aircraft tail number could cause a flight, its crew, and cargo to be delayed.

My duties as a Training Supervisor were simple in principle: I trained all the newly-hiredemployees to safely and effectively be a part of our company's workforce. This involved gettingto know a group of around 10 people, seeing how they learn best, and teaching our corporatetraining material effectively over the course of a week. I used PowerPoint slides, videos, andphysical demonstrations to help me train. In addition to initial training, I provided recurrenttraining, making sure the employees knew our latest Standard Operating Procedures.

My Ramp Agent (or “Ramper”) duties involved the safe and timely servicing of largecargo freighter aircraft, such as the Boeing 747 and 777. This included working on the openairport ramp, using lighted wands to guide the aircraft in to its parking space, placing woodenchocks against the tires, and safety cones around the engines and wingtips, as well as drivingtugs, using mobile stairs, ground power, air-starts, water and lavatory service units, andproviding security as part of servicing aircraft, its cargo, and the crew onboard.

I worked on a 41-foot cement trolling vessel in Southeast Alaska. The captain and Ifished the July 2017 King Salmon opening. My compensation was earned as a percentage of thetotal haul of fish. My duties on the boat included running fishing lines, cleaning and icing fish,navigating, as well as boat maintenance. For the few months before the fishing opening started, Iworked for the captain on an hourly schedule. This hourly work included boat preparation, suchas setting up and fixing boat electronics and computer systems, repairing hydraulic lines andwinches, and patching and re-painting the boat's outer hull.
