About Hunter Ries

Hunter J. Ries is a Ph.D. candidate specializing in viral evolution and pathology. With an anticipated thesis defense in Spring 2025, Hunter is actively pursuing postdoctoral fellowship opportunities where he can meaningfully contribute to communicable disease prevention, preparedness, and response efforts. His research leverages next-generation sequencing technologies to advance our understanding of seasonal influenza virus evolution and to perform SARS-CoV-2 genomic surveillance. His doctoral work also utilizes non-human primate models of disease to deepen our understanding of flavivirus (e.g., dengue virus and Zika virus) exposure risks during pregnancy and the impact of prior exposure on future disease risk.
