From Winchester Ontario, Canada, Rich Irwin was constantly surrounded by music. At 11 years old, his passion for the drums began, and was sent to learn the fundamentals at the Glengarry School of Pipes and Drums. Here he competed in Scottish events all over North America and Europe, and went on to study jazz performance at McGill University. Residing in Montreal, Rich frequently plays with Julie Lamontagne, Vic Vogel, Dawn Tyler Watson, Al McLean, Remi Bolduc, Jeff Johnston, Jean Pierre Zanella, Hadrian’s Wall, and is currently touring the world with Nikki Yanofsky. He has performed in venues such as the Blue Note NY, Dizzy’s Club, Catalina’s, Ronnie Scott’s, Massey Hall, Air Canada Centre, Saddledome, as well as events such as the Montreal Drum Fest, the NAMM show, Montreal Jazz Fest, North Sea Jazz Fest, San Francisco Jazz, Red Sea Jazz Fest, and many others. He has worked with international artists such as Celine Dion, Freddie Hubbard, Donny McCaslin, Randy Bachman, Ingrid Jensen, Gary Smulyan, and Denzal Sinclaire, to name a few.
