I’m fortunate to have experienced a career’s worth of positions and roles all at the same evolving company over the past 20 years. Starting as a software developer to now director of product development, I’ve had a front-row seat to watch as the IoT and embedded industry matures.Throughout my career, I’ve built and led successful software development teams and delivered hundreds of projects for long-standing and new customers. When I measure success, it’s not on how many bugs we fixed or how quickly we shipped. Success in product development means that we’ve helped our customers achieve profound changes in their business. In my time at Bsquare (and at MPC Data Ltd, before Bsquare acquired us), I have helped our company successfully progress up the software stack, from an embedded aspect up to cloud-based and connected solutions. In that time, we’ve also moved from consulting to a focus on developing a product, SquareOne. It’s been a bracing and satisfying challenge to adapt my own thinking and management style as well as help the company transition over this period by shaping the working processes and practices.As someone with a mathematical background, I tend to work in a process- and data-driven way, with a focus on automation and measuring. I highly appreciate the value of trust and openness, so while I love the numbers, I also enjoy working in a collaborative and communicative role. I like discussing and tackling difficult problems and being able to clearly explain my thoughts. I also find great reward in leading a strong technical team - It is really satisfying to see engineers working together towards a common set of goals and supporting them in their individual aspirations and challenges.When I’m not enabling digital transformation for our customers, I spend my time solving cryptic crosswords (with various levels of success!), walking my son to school, collecting cookbooks, and crafting super tricky puzzles for our company’s virtual pub quiz.
