Profile bio

About Rik Workman

It has always been important to me to travel and explore other fascinating cultures and their antiquity.I'm currently working as a staff archaeologist with Historical Research Associates, Inc. based out of Portland, Oregon. I have been conducting archaeological research in the Pacific Northwest for the past 13+ years and have had the opportunity to work in several areas around the globe. My main interests are in archaeological conservation and geoarchaeology. When time allows, I work as an art conservation assistant with Cascadia Art Conservation Center in Portland OR working on both public and private artworks. Rik is a 2010 graduate from The College of Wooster in Ohio where he studied under Dr. P. Nick Kardulias and received a B.A. degree in Archaeology. Rik completed his educational experience at Wooster by receiving Honors on his Senior Independent Study Thesis (http://www.wooster.edu/Independent-Study) entitled, 'The Workman's Manual: An Archaeological Field Guide to the Classification, Dating, and Conservation of Ohio's Prehistoric Ceramics'.This study investigates prehistoric ceramics from Ohio and surrounding areas in the effort to develop a compendium of the various types that archaeologists have identified over the past 60 years. Rik makes a first attempt at a comprehensive guide to the ceramics of the region. Included in this study is a consideration of the role that conservation can play in preserving the pottery for the detailed typological analyses that archaeologists undertake. Rik intends to do further research and analysis in hope of publishing such a field manual for the field archaeologist.Specialties: My current research deals with the conservation of archaeological materials. I am heavily enticed by many regions of archaeology including those of the Pacific Northwest, Caribbean, Mediterranean, and Anatolia.

Listed skills include Archaeology, History, Research, Museums, and 44 others.
