Tech lead for the Client SDKs used to perform high-volume telemetry collection from Snapchat apps, devices and websites, including metrics used for business and financial reporting like DAUs. Worked closely with platform teams to deliver highly efficient, privacy-aware, metrics with minimal device and network footprint.Highlights of my time at Snap:- Redesigned Snap's telemetry transmission using a protobuf-based envelope protocol, improving bandwidth utilisation by over 50%.- Built the Typescript/React Web telemetry SDK to support the launch of Snapchat for Web.- Created an isolated, secure version of the SDK to support privacy requirements for Google Pixel's "Tap to Snap". - Implemented category-based engagement metric tracking, increasing detail of business reporting of time spent across the app.

Amazon Go | Infrastructure & ScalingLed the infra team. Designed, evangelized for, and helped implement the architecture that enabled Amazon Go to scale reliably beyond its initial proof-of-concept store. Built many SDKs and tools in Java/Kotlin/Ruby to enable developers to rapidly scale their services.

Amazon Video | Discovery & PersonalizationBuilt out the core platform and API components behind Amazon Videos's storefront, smart lists and recommendations. Led the tech work for the cross-platform launch of "Channels", giving customers a way to ditch cable by adding HBO, Showtime, Starz and more to Amazon Video.

Amazon Video | Digital Rights Management/Content AccessOwned the web services which managed video rights and policies, including PlayReady, FairPlay and Widevine DRM; geographical restrictions; concurrency restrictions and others. Redesigned Amazon's DRM platform to support future devices and content protection schemes. In particular, built Amazon's FairPlay/HLS implementation, translating Apple's C reference code into maintainable Java within Amazon's ecosystem.

Amazon Video | Client APIs/ServicesDeveloped APIs supporting and enabling authentication, authorization and configuration of connected devices including Kindle Fire, Fire TV, Xbox One, PS4, Fire Phone, Wii U and others. As part of the migration of subsidiary LOVEFiLM's multi-million customers in Europe to the global Amazon Video service, I owned implementing a EU-compliant parental control system and developing a rock-solid billing migration to ensure that LOVEFiLM customers did not see any pricing changes despite a foundational platform change.

Designed and developed VPS (Virtual Private Server) platform, also adopted by sister company, 123-Reg. Full stack development based on Perl and Javascript.

Spent a year abroad after graduating, traveling and working. Worked with several remote clients on full-stack development work including a ground-up build of a healthcare auditing system (Perl/Template Toolkit/jQuery/MySQL/Memcached).

Internship. Created a cPanel deployment automation system that saved many hours of second-line support time. Designed/implemented a tape-storage backup solution using Amanda. Day-to-day maintenance and build of servers, managing mail queues and monitoring server security.
