Operating engineer in Bane NOR (formerly Jernbaneverket) responsible for both the radio and the repeater system used in the GSM-R network. The work includes monitoring, configuration and alarm management of the systems for which I am responsible. Close contact and follow-up of the suppliers is maintained in case of major errors or upgrades on the systems. Participation in projects that build new telecom sites, design of telecom systems in new railway tunnels and construction of GEO redundancy for the systems. A major project that I participate in aims to replace the entire national coverage radio network for GSM-R. Documentation, and maintenance of the documentation, is also an important task.

I worked as a technical student at CERN in Switzerland while writing my master’s thesis at NTNU. The job at CERN was mainly to design and start the implementation of a web application that should handle physical access control to the various systems at CERN. This system had to co-operate with several other systems, keeping track of which zones the different users were in, logging activities and risk assessments, contributing to time planning, and so on. The data was stored in a SQL database, and I spent a lot of time putting myself into the security mechanisms that Oracle can offer in its database systems (reliability in such systems was the theme of my master thesis). The web application was designed according to the MVC principle and was written in Java and JavaScript, while the database was designed in the ER chart.

Summer job in 2008 and 2009 at Nera Networks where I worked, together with two fellow students, on the bachelor thesis from Bergen University College. In addition, I worked a little beside the study between the summer jobs to further develop the program. Through this job I gained knowledge about the use of SNMP, MIB and OID to extract the status of a microwave transmission system. The data extracted from the systems was then processed in a Java program before being presented as statistics and graphs to contribute to proactive error correction. In 2010 we received an innovation prize from Nera Networks since the application was now integrated into equipment that Nera produced.
