Have you ever thought of computer science as an art form?Ever since I was little I’ve had a fascination with the interplay between technology and self-expression. In elementary school, I was coding Lego Mindstorm robots with my grandmother while filling one sketchbook after another with drawings and doodles. In high school, I led our robotics team as lead programmer while also writing fantasy stories and designing tabletop games. Whether it was science or art, I was always seeking out patterns, systems, puzzles I could solve, or rules I could design within. That’s why game design was so attractive to me as a field of study: I wanted to feed my creative brain and my scientific brain at the same time.As I worked through my degree, I found that I kept gravitating towards the software side of games. Through teaching myself C# to make use of the Unity game engine, I discovered a passion for the iterative process of creative problem-solving that object-oriented code presented. That passion has only been sharpened and focused through my time at Tech Elevator. From drawing out trigonometry calculations for wall-running physics by hand to playing animated videos through the command line by converting images into ASCII art, software development has become one of my favorite forms of self-expression and creativity. As I write line after line of code, I can’t help but feel like each keystroke is a brushstroke on the canvas of my computer, and the hunger for more pushes me to seek out more knowledge that I can add to my painter’s pallet.This love of code combined with my skills in collaborative problem-solving, teamwork, and leadership makes me feel right at home as a Full Stack Software Developer. I’d love to connect with others in the tech industry and continue to learn, grow, and design creatively.
