Riley Jacobs recently completed a master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from the Cockrell School of Engineering at the University of Texas - Austin. Her research has focused on propulsion and hypersonics, specifically applying experimental techniques in aerothermodynamics and fluid mechanics. Her work includes using optical diagnostics, such as laser-based measurements, to investigate standing detonation shock waves and hypersonic flows.During her undergraduate studies, Riley conducted research on the theory, modeling, and simulation of Alfvén wave evolution in the solar wind. She also developed an app for the Center for Space Research, leveraging Google Earth Engine to analyze GRACE and GRACE Follow-On total water storage data for remote sensing applications.Beyond her academic achievements, Riley has been an active leader and advocate in the engineering community. She has taken on leadership roles in outreach programs like the Society of Women Engineers and Graduate Ladies of Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics, where she promotes STEM education and advocates for women in engineering.
