This project allowed me to work with an individual for assessing their health from a nutritional standpoint and help them set health related goals by using behavior change theories and motivation interviewing. I am also responsible for implementing an intervention plan and evaluating and monitoring their progress through appropriate measurable assessments. This project also gives me the opportunity to practice the nutrition care process in a real life case. This is gathering information by asking questions related to: food/nutrition related history, client history, anthropometrics, biochemical, and physical findings. For my project, I am working with an individual experiencing GI distress and discomfort. Together we are working on forming a low FodMap diet as a temporary plan to help relieve related GI symptoms. This project has allowed me to fill the role of a professional and has also contributed to the organizational skills I have developed.

In my biochemistry class with a partner, we conducted a research question relating to a micronutrient and a disease state. Our research focused around the question what is the relationship between potassium and diabetes. For this project we reviewed primary articles pertaining to our question as well as analyzing the results, data charts, and tables. Our findings were presented as a professional powerpoint which included information about potassium and diabetes, including the physiological connection. Our presentation included overviews of the research studies we found and tables and graphs from the studies, which we explained in great detail by identifying statistically significant values . This project has taught me the steps of the research process as well as how to analyze tables and graphs,and a general understanding of statistics. This has helped me feel prepared to work in a potential research setting.

Facilitating and directing the after school cooking program at the Keene Recreation center. With a partner, we plan weekly snacks for 40+ kids, following the CACFP guidelines. Each we plan healthy recipes that we can cook with the kids. This helps young kids develop cooking skills and exposure to nutritious foods that will become a regular part of their diet. Through this role I have learned important leadership and organization skills. I have also learned skills involving communication with children and I am further learning about teaching nutrition education to young children.
