Mechanical Engineer Ii
Mechanical Engineer I
Undergraduate Teaching Assistant
I was a UTA for the ME 270: Sophomore Design course. I worked with students during class hours to guide their design process and answer questions. I also assisted the professor with grading teams' design reports and provide feedback. With the transition to online learning due to the pandemic, I helped with assignment creation and held virtual office hours.
Additive Manufacturing Design Co-Op
I was part of an engineering team working to improve and expand additive manufacturing for a wide variety of applications at Emerson. I planned and created 3D models in PTC Creo Elements/Direct to be manufactured using Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) technology. I evaluated systems and processes for efficiency and product quality. To improve our cutting-edge additive manufacturing technologies, I documented any lessons learned and worked closely with other engineers to make design and process improvements.
Undergraduate Teaching Assistant
This position is for the M E 170: Engineering Graphics and Introductory Design course. I held a SolidWorks help room for two hours twice each week where I helped with 3D modeling and CAD drawings. My goal was to show the students not only how SolidWorks works, but also how to think of 3D objects as a set of simple, easy-to-draw geometry. I really enjoy helping others succeed and seeing them learn as they practice their CAD modeling skills.
Manufacturing Engineer Co-Op
I worked closely with engineers and plant floor workers to develop and revise a wide variety of tooling for current and future products. These tools are now being used for machining, forming, welding, painting, assembling, and assuring the quality of products. I gained experience with PTC Creo Parametric 2.0 and 4.0, Windchill PDM, DraftSight, and manufacturing ERP systems. I improved my ability to design for manufacturing by designing parts to be made on laser cutters, press brakes, mills, and lathes with tolerances in mind. I asked for feedback from machinists, welders, painters, and assemblers to avoid repeating any mistakes.I learned about lean manufacturing methods and worked to implement them. I worked with engineers and plant floor workers to design floor layouts for tooling and unit assembly; these layouts focused on efficient part flow and minimizing the required floor space. I developed and revised several Manufacturing Procedure documents for use by plant floor workers. These documents reduced quality issues in existing products and prevented manufacturing mistakes in new products.I researched and documented potential introductory 3D printing solutions for the company. I compiled a list of potential printers, used decision matrices to reduce the selection down to a few options, and determined the best choice for the company. I considered several factors, including up-front costs for the printer and its peripherals, material and maintenance costs, time investments, build size, and reliability. I presented my findings to engineering managers and the company president.
