The project focused on the local region, and the findings of the project were presented to the local National Weather Service staff. I was able to participate in office outreach along with becoming familiar with field instrumentation throughout the internship. I worked at The Port of Virginia as an intern with the Maritime Incident Response Team (MIRT). As an intern, I assisted my colleagues with all of the responsibilities of MIRT. For instance, I took part in running MIRT organized programs such as the Marine Firefighting School, Harborfest, and Rad/Nuc Marine Training. During these programs, there was an emphasis on working between agencies and it really taught me the importance of communication for emergency operations.
