Controls Team Member
The EcoCAR 3 challenge is to take a standard octane driven 2016 GM Camaro and transform it into a hybrid electric vehicle. More on the team specifically and challenge can be viewed at http://ecocar3.org/mcmaster/about-us/As a member of the controls team my duties were to:-Analyze raw .dbc files, parse them with Python then calculate CAN bus statistics for the vehicle-Analyze CAN logs, plot data, and utilize Vector CANoe to extract real time vehicle data and monitor the messages to ensure the vehicle is operating properly-Develop engineering documentation for review by General Motors and benefit of the team-Develop embedded C code for some of the controllers created by the electrical team members such that the controllers can be safely placed in the vehicle and used without doubt.
Summer Research Intern
My duties as a Summer Research Intern is to aide and assist two graduate students who are studying Controller Area Networks, CAN. Thus far, I have mostly been developing embedded C code for CAN systems, utilizing many micro controllers, such as STM's and Arduinos. Apart from coding I have worked on circuit design and analysis, as well as creating schematics for future reference. Furthermore, I have been responsible for gathering data based on how the developed CAN network is functioning for a given case. To do this oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and devices for USART communication and serial to USB communication were learned to be used. Data collected is then organized and presented to the grad students. Weekly it is also my responsibility to attend and participate in SCRUM meetings, and webinars with those who are working on the CAN project. Lastly, I am responsible for my work space, keeping wires and circuits neat and insulated, the desk tidy, and the office in a respectable state.
