He is a Fellow of the ESD Youth Conference Japan and an alumnus of the Learning Creators' Lab, which researches inquiry-based learning. He has given numerous lectures and trainings on PBL and has written several books on ESD (Education for Sustainable Development).In 2017, Rintaro visited the Republic of Zambia with JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) and, after returning, developed a class where primary school students could freely set up projects in the context of the SDGs. Since then, he has researched PBL methods and established a class design where learners learn spontaneously and inevitably.From 2019, Rintaro has redesigned primary education at Nitobe Bunka Academy. He has been responsible for training and supporting all teachers in developing PBL. He has also given many lectures on PBL to school boards in Japan, JICA, and others and advised several other primary schools on PBL. He also works with companies to develop ESD programmes and teaching materials.For these achievements in the field of PBL, he was awarded the Outstanding Leadership Award by Education 2.0 in Dubai in 2022.Rintaro's primary research interest is the potential for spreading PBL in the African region to improve the educational situation. To this end, he joined the International Education and Development MA at the University of Sussex in 2024, where he researches how PBL could be spread through teacher education and how much effectiveness will be expected in the African region.
