And operating the tills, handling financial transactions including refunds and following cashing-up and shop closure procedures.

My job role is ‘front of house’ and involves delivering first class customer service, controlling stock levels and cash handling. Also, I have to work within health and safety parameters and health and hygiene regulations. My role here is supervisory and involves working and training the team to comply with the company’s standards. The team that I work with includes approximately 50 members. Our busiest times include Easter, Summer and Christmas so I am used to working under pressure and building a rapport with guests.

In March, after touring the East Coast of Australia, I acquired a full time, live-in au pair position for a family from Springfield Lakes in QLD. The role involved helping to promote the social and educational development of three young children within a busy household. Providing breakfast for them and looking after their needs from when they wake up, until the parents arrive home from work, performing childcare responsibilities and light household duties according to the family's rules.

At the beginning of 2011, I undertook 4 months’ unpaid work experience for a Manchester based company, Loving Outdoors. I was given a job within the marketing department and it was my duty to write press releases and distribute them to the local and national media.

My role here was Supervisor and my responsibilities included opening and running the shop at weekends or on the manager’s days off, cashing up, ear piercing, customer service, conference calls, stock takes and replenishing the shop amongst other duties. Often I was left to run the shop alone as it was fairly small so this meant I was accountable for the banking, the checking of the till floats and refunds. I often had to deal with complaints using the correct procedure and by using my own judgement of what to offer as goodwill. Upselling at point of purchase and sales targets was something we also had to measure daily.
