Having had the fortune of experiencing success as an investor and contributing to several notable companies, including Keyhole (now Google Earth) and @Last Software (now Google SketchUp), I was thrilled to also play a key role in drafting the KML specification - as a result, I joined the Google Geo team. My journey with Google allowed me to contribute to the Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Response (HA/DR) domain by leading Google's efforts during Hurricane Katrina and establishing an internal team to enhance the company's crisis support capabilities on a much larger scale. Furthermore, I was instrumental in forming, leading, and expanding the Google Federal sales team, starting with geo products before encompassing all of Google's enterprise solutions for government users everywhere.I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from industry luminaries such as Michael Jones, John Hanke, Brian McClendon, Chikai Ohazama, Brad Schell, Noah Doyle, Edward Lu, Andria Ruben-McCool, and many other talented individuals at Google. In-Q-Tel is an independent, venture-oriented, not-for-profit organization established to bridge the gap between the U.S. Intelligence Community (IC) technology needs and emerging commercial technologies. Through strategic investments in startups boasting commercially viable technologies, In-Q-Tel aims to provide the IC with significant, immediate technological advantages to enhance their missions.I have managed and participated in evaluating over 1,000 business plans submitted annually to In-Q-Tel, fully overseeing the selection of companies for further in-depth technical and business analysis and potential investment. My contributions have also included co-leading and directly influencing more than two dozen significant investments, notably in Keyhole (now Google Earth) and @Last Software (now Google SketchUp).Additionally, my role involved conducting extensive technical due diligence, identifying, researching, and assessing new startup technology firms poised to deliver exceptional value to critical agencies within the IC, such as the CIA, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, and the Defense Intelligence Agency. This work was pivotal in ensuring the IC could effectively leverage cutting-edge technologies to fulfill its objectives.
