Rishika Assomull is an Auctioneer, a Senior Specialist of Modern Art and Deputy Director at Sotheby’s Hong Kong, where she integrates Southeast Asian Art within the Modern and Contemporary Art departments. She began her career as a graduate trainee at Sotheby’s New York in 2013, before moving to Sotheby’s Singapore in 2014 to build her expertise in Southeast Asian Art. In 2019, she moved to Sotheby’s Hong Kong, where she soon joined the Modern Art department. She grew up in Jakarta, Indonesia, and studied Art History and Business at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA, where was awarded the Lerman Neubauer Fellowship. In 2013, she wrote her senior thesis The Classical Depiction of Female Figures in Buddhist Gandharan Sculptures and won the Rosalind W. Levine Prize for an exceptional honors thesis in the History of Art. She is currently writing The Jakarta Salon, an art history book pertaining to an important patron of Indonesian art in the 20th century, which is scheduled for publishing by 2024. She is also the founder of I Have Sindh, a research project relating to the culture and history of the Hindu-Sindhi diaspora.She was a guest lecturer at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, MBA Programme, where she spoke on Southeast Asia: The Art and The Market, and at Gratia Christian College, Hong Kong, Higher Diploma, where she conducted an Art Business Case Study. She was also a panelist for Art Basel Hong Kong Speaker Series on The Art Ecosystem in Hong Kong, and at Brandeis University’s Auction Industry Career Panel. She is on the Executive Board of the Women Empowerment & Support ERG at Sotheby’s. She has successfully completed the coursework and examination in the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice.
