Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) is an intergovernmental organization working to build resilience to disasters and climate change impacts in Asia and the Pacific. As a Capacity Development Lead, my roles and responsibilities includes:1. Working closely with the counterparts from the other SERVIR hubs, NASA, and USAID and contribute to the global SERVIR capacity development strategies and plans.2. Taking a leadership role in the development and delivery of all capacity development activities such as training, hands-on, co-development engagement, and online learning.3. Maintaining an active network of academic institutions in the Lower Mekong region, including establishing contacts with universities and research institutes globally.4. Managing internship programs already established with universities such as the University of Twente, The Netherlands and Chulalongkorn University in Thailand.5. Leading in the designing, monitoring, and evaluating capacity development strategies and plans for all of the SERVIR-Mekong services through close working relationship with service leads.6. Contributing in scientific discussion as per the area of expertise.7. Providing curriculum development support for university partners in the region, with a focus on courses and topics related to geospatial information and technology.8. Contributing to the development of knowledge sharing events, and ensuring appropriate tailoring of communications and knowledge management products.9. Leading the capacity assessments of partners and stakeholders, in close coordination with the M&E Lead.10. Coordinating closely with the Capacity Development Leads from the other SERVIR hubs, USAID, and NASA on capacity development matters.11. Supporting the Science and Data Lead and team members in publishing work under the department in peer-reviewed articles.12. Coordinating with the NASA Applied Science Teams.

Responsibilities of a regional co-lead include:• Foster active participation in the regional task team and help coordinate quarterly meetings• Help guide thematic working groups, currently organized around floods and droughts• Drive the task team’s engagement with EOTEC DevNet global work products, such as theme-specific “trackers” on existing tools and capacity development resources, guidance, and use cases showcasing successful methodologies and approaches• Work with task team members to identify and communicate capacity development gaps at regional level

Facilitate in implementation of Decision Support System for Agro-technology Transfer (DSSAT) model for enhancing the Regional Hydrologic Extreme Assessment System (RHEAS) capabilities to monitor and forecast seasonal rice crop productivity.Facilitate the training and capacity building programs of the project for the Lower Mekong countries

1. Provide required technical assistance in the preparation of training needs assessment questionnaires, material and case studies for training courses, awareness raising events and workshops;2. Search for, preparing, and organizing geospatial data for training courses;3. Assist in the delivery of technical trainings and awareness raising and other capacity building related activities;4. Assist in the preparation of Quality&Assurance documentation for learning events and training evaluation reports;5. Support UNOSAT in its outreach and communication activities in ensuring that training activities are well promoted and monitored;6. Undertake missions as required in support of training and capacity development activities;7. Assist the CommonSensing project team by drafting all required project reporting and deliverables.

Operational lead for BRACED Asia programme and Engagement leader for Nepal & Myanmar

Leading a team of experts responsible for developing a drought monitoring system for Lower Mekong; monitoring day-to-day activities; provide technical advise and guidance; leading country level consultations.

Main Tasks:• Analyze relevant subject specific science based information to generate hazard specific decision support products to suit the needs of vulnerable sectors such as agriculture, water, energy, etc. for utilization by stakeholders at all levels (community, City/Local Governments, Provincial and National governments).• Analyze hazard, vulnerability and risk and potential impacts to vulnerable sectors based on subject specific information in order to design appropriate climate risk reduction interventions and climate change adaptation measures to suit all levels (community, City/Local Government, Provincial and National governments).• Generate / prepare advance hazard specific early warnings, end-to-end Early Warning System development and dissemination of relevant information to communities at risk as well as to sector specific stakeholders such as agriculture, water, energy, etc at all levels.• Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Concept of Operations (CONOPs), Decision Support Systems (DSSs) for effective dissemination of Early warnings to communities at risk.• Develop Climate Risk Management/Climate Change Adaptation strategies and identification of risk management opportunities to address residual risk within different eco-systems to minimize socio-economic effects on lives, livelihoods, economic assets and infrastructure.

ADPC is an Intergovernmental Organization working in the field of Disaster Preparedness and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in the South and South-East Asia. ADPC was originally established jointly by two agencies of the United Nations, the Office of the United Nations Disaster Relief Coordinator (currently the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA)) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). ADPC has close partnership with Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), Secretariat for Pacific Community (previously known as SOPAC) on various DRR related themes. It works closely with a range of UN Agencies including UNDP, UNICEF, UNESCAP, WHO, WMO, UNISDR, UNOCHA, UN-Habitat, etc. As a Technical Officer (GIS) and Senior GIS Coordinator, I was involved with the Comprehensive Disaster Management Program of the Government of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh on Earthquake Risk and Vulnerability Assessment in different cities.Main task includes:- Development of a detailed building and infrastructure database for different cities of Bangladesh.- Ward level building footprint identification and generation of ward level footprint maps for risk assessment.- Analyze scientifically the risk and vulnerability and its impact on different sectors and to provide specific information to design appropriate disaster risk reduction action plan.- Provide technical inputs, guidance and advice to the members of the duty station in order to help implement their technical expertise at the national and regional level.- Reduced risk to populations through structural and non-structural interventions, empowerment of communities and improved awareness of, and planning for, natural hazard events, including the likely impacts of climate change.
