Conduct research focused on how neuroendocrine mechanisms influence mood across the female reproductive lifespan.

My independent research project in Dr. Timothy Gershon’s lab dealt with combating cerebellar Medulloblastoma which is considered the most common malignant pediatric brain tumor. Current treatments result in an 80% 5-year survival rate. Yet, they still fail 20% of patients and can result in debilitating neurocognitive deficits. Therefore, due to a need to identify effective less-toxic therapeutic options for medulloblastoma treatment, my project consisted of testing the efficacy of pairing a Bcl-xL inhibitor (POx-ABT263) with a Sonic Hedgehog inhibitor (Vismodegib) in mice genetically engineered to develop SHH-subtype medulloblastomas. While POx-ABT263 alone is not sufficient to prolong the survival of tumor-bearing mice, my data suggested that targeting Bcl-xL and SHH signaling together may work synergistically.

Became a skin champion in order to prevent the number of pressure injuries and improve the skin integrity of patients on my unit. Partook in skin training to recognize, prevent, and treat pressure wounds and ulcers of different stages.

Work directly with burn and wound patients in order to improve health outcomes for those who have been involved in prior accidents. Perform individualized patient care to meet the unique health needs of each patient on this unit. Aid healthcare team by performing burn and wound care, rounding, and activities of daily living for patients.

Supplemental instructor for cell biology and developmental biology. Put together course material and run review sessions for students in BIOL 205. Help students achieve their academic goals and answer any doubts they may have.

Conducted comparative research on microglia activation in the hippocampus and amygdala in response to a peripheral immune challenge. Presented research project at the Undergraduate Celebration of Research with NSCI 279 project group.
