Rita Boyd leverages technology to create engaging and adaptable learning experiences that empower students in today's evolving educational landscape. She started her career as a STARBASE instructor at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base where she saw first-hand the impact of high-quality science and technology integration in the classroom. Her passion for teaching and building relationships with students led her to a more traditional teaching environment as a fifth-grade teacher in the Vail School District, where she continued to use technology to engage students in real-world projects and problem-solving opportunities. Because of her knowledge of technology in instruction, Rita was selected to take on the role of Site Technology Coordinator at Desert Willow Elementary School, where she coached teachers and staff on how to use technology to meet the learning needs of students effectively. During her time as a technology coordinator, Rita developed ties with the professional learning network, ISTE. Her work with the ISTE Digital Citizenship PLN team has helped fuel her passion for empowering teachers to use technology in their classrooms so that students can experience firsthand what it means to be digital agents of change. Rita is now the Education Technology Coordinator for the Vail School District and excitedly collaborates with her colleagues to coordinate events such as Computer Science Night, the Vail Hackathon, and the Vail EdTech Conference. Most recently Rita Boyd has facilitated district-level discussions surrounding AI in Education and continues to explore the innovative intersection of technology in education while considering student data privacy, ethics, and responsible use of this emerging technology.
