About Rita Nicolas
Throughout my professional carrier working in one of a well-known international NGOs Plan International and currently in the Migration and Protection domain at the Swiss office of International Cooperation, I had the opportunity to work with and for children, youth and women of both local and migrant groups, advocating and promoting their rights and protection issues through participatory right based approaches in various program sectors in both rural and urban areas. During my direct practical experience within communities made me more conscious of the serious issues facing children and young people on daily basis, such as abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence in every area of their lives from people they know and trust, that threatens their survival, development and participation in society. I have a Master degree from the Institute of Social Studies in the Hague, the Netherland, which has broadened my knowledge and deepened my understanding on the complexity of many children issues our world is facing today, providing me with the necessary theoretical platform and contributing into making me reflect more strategically and reinforce my deep belief that no matter how impossible it may seem yet through political will, capacity building, awareness raising and dialogue children have the ability and the power to realize their full potential and change their lives if given the appropriate chances, resources and skills.
