Faculty Fellow for Research in the WKU College of Health and Human Services (CHHS). Experienced director of research operations in the Western Kentucky University, College of Health and Human Services. Skilled in developing strategic vision, mission, and plan for research and academic programs, implementing strategies to engage faculty and students in research, scholarship, and innovation, increasing research productivity and external funding in a university college, developing a research funding pathway for faculty and staff, and communicating research outcomes to colleagues, stakeholders and the community. Over 23 years of experience as a principal investigator on major research grants with federal agencies. A key ability is to work with university administration to advance the vision and mission, and use research, scholarship, and innovation as a pathway to engage and retain students. Skilled in mentoring faculty and staff in developing resources and knowledge for successful grant identification, application, and management. Skilled and grants, budget, and fiscal management at a college level in a university. Founding director of the first applied research center in the WKU College of Health and Human Services. He leads community-based participatory research (CBPR) studies to evaluate firefighters’ exposure to occupational hazards and has served as a Co-Investigator on research to evaluate volunteer and career firefighters’ exposures to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, diesel particulates, asbestos, and other occupational hazards in rural environments. In this work, Dr. Taylor collaborates with the Green River Firefighters Association, Kentucky Firefighters Association, Kentucky Fire Commission, University of Cincinnati NIOSH ERC, and the University of Louisville Center for Integrative Environmental Health Sciences. Dr. Taylor continues to address environmental health issues in rural communities through research with students that includes evaluation of hazardous materials transport, stormwater management, water quality, and air quality.
