My first role at TNT was with leading a team to design and develop a framework in order to port existing IBM Struts portlets to Spring based Portlets without a complete re-write of existing applications. The move from Struts to Spring was to utilise the power of Dependency injection and create more loosely coupled applications. In addition to this framework, I reviewed a number of existing applications and found them to be poorly structured and contain business logic in the UI Layer, specifically JSP’s. As a result I introduced Freemarker templates to the technology suite, not only to prevent “JSP hacking”, but also to provide a mechanism to unit test HTML.More recently I have been the lead developer/architect on the MyDelivery project, https://express.tnt.com/mydelivery/flow/redelivery.html. I was responsible for an offshore team of (Holland), who developed the supporting domain for this application where as I developed the service layer (EJB3) and the front end (Freemarker/Spring Webflow/JQuery/HTML/CSS). The MyDelivery project was part of the bigger WARP project and after successful deployment to live of MyDelivery, I was tasked with leading a team of 8 developers (all offshore in Italy and Mauritius) in developing the front end user interface for the new look TNT website. As well as acting as Scrum Master for the UI team I was heavily involved in the development of this website and created the initial page look and feel for the other developers to extend. Where appropriate I used Spring Webflow (Send A Package – a wizard style application) and the other applications used Spring MVC with DWR for the Ajax capability where required. In addition to templating, TNT has now added Spring Webflow, Spring MVC, Freemarker, Selenium IDE and Cubic Test to their approved toolsets/preferred software stack upon my recommendation.

As the senior developer within the team I often conducted code reviews and advised on best practice. I also championed the benefits of Test Driven development with continuous building (Hudson) and Maven best practices
